Market realities
The conditions shaping growth
Homeowners use several paths to find a plumber
In a 2019 survey of 863 U.S. homeowners, 67% said they would call a company they had used before, 52% would ask someone they know, 39% would search the internet, and 31% would read online reviews. Respondents could choose more than one action.
Online search and reviews influence provider selection
In a 2024 U.S. home services survey, 86% said they start an active provider search online; of those, 61% start with a traditional search engine. Sixty-four percent consulted Google reviews. Being licensed and insured was the most-selected top-three provider quality, followed by price and good online reviews.
Local visibility depends on relevance, distance, and prominence
Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and prominence. Complete business details, links, and reviews can matter, but Google says businesses cannot request or pay for a better local ranking.
Service-area plumbers need an accurate profile setup
Google says a plumber serving customers at their locations should generally use one profile for the central location and hide the address if customers are not served there. A virtual office cannot be listed unless it is staffed during business hours.
Reviews need to be genuine
Google permits businesses to request genuine reviews through a link or QR code. Offering free or discounted goods or services in exchange for a review, or for changing or removing one, is prohibited.
Paid search costs vary and leads are not completed jobs
LocaliQ's analysis of plumbing campaigns from April 2024 through March 2025 reported a 4.97% click-through rate, $10.49 average cost per click, 7.63% conversion rate, and $129.02 cost per lead. These are campaign averages; a lead does not necessarily become a booked or completed job.
Published marketing offers have different scopes and terms
Examples checked September 24, 2026 range from a $500 three-page website to a $3,000 standalone site, and from $297 per month for local SEO to $4,000 per month for a growth SEO tier. Deliverables, ad spend, setup costs, and contract terms differ, so these offers are not directly comparable.
Local Services Ads pricing is not universal
Google charges for valid leads, and lead prices vary by location, job type, lead type, and bidding mode. Google does not publish one universal plumber cost per lead. It is also migrating Local Services Ads into Google Ads as Performance Max campaigns with pay-per-lead goals.
