How to read this report

We distinguish official platform statements, third-party findings, anonymized FlashCrafter aggregates, and our analysis. Each finding states whether our first-party observations corroborated it and how confident we are.

The strongest pattern this month is fragmentation, not a single winning channel. A business could reach a top Maps or organic position in one sampled context while remaining absent across most of the broader measured search surface. AI Overviews were present in a minority of sampled result sets, and assistant visibility was not yet measured. The practical implication is to measure coverage across Maps, organic, paid, and AI surfaces separately instead of treating one rank check as overall market visibility.

02

Local Services Ads

Official ranking inputs are clear, but this edition cannot responsibly claim client-performance corroboration.

Official platform guidanceNot tested internallyhigh confidence

LSA visibility is not a simple organic rank

Google describes Local Services Ads ordering as an auction that combines bid, likelihood of producing a lead, responsiveness, relevance, profile quality, and search context.

Whitespark's 2026 expert survey similarly placed budget and bidding, reviews, service selection, and response times among its leading perceived LSA factors. That is third-party expert opinion, not Google algorithm disclosure.

Our retained corpus does not contain dedicated LSA account performance, so the external findings are marked not tested rather than forced into a false corroboration.

03

Google Maps

A strong best position did not imply broad local visibility.

External + FlashCrafter evidenceCorroboratedmedium confidence

A top Maps position can coexist with thin coverage

The median best measured pack position was 1 among six businesses with comparable position evidence, while median share of visibility was only 2.5% among 13 businesses.

These aggregates describe different denominators and should not be combined into a causal claim. Together they show why a single favorable rank check is not a market-coverage measurement.

Whitespark separately warns that manual searches and rank trackers can differ because local results depend on context. Our observations are directionally consistent with measuring Maps spatially, but do not validate any specific ranking factor from its survey.

Anonymized first-party aggregate

Median share of measured Maps visibility was 2.5%; the separate best-position cohort had six businesses and a median best position of 1. Sample: 13 businesses.

05

Google AI Overviews

Generative results appeared in the sample, but the evidence cannot identify whose content earned a citation or visit.

External + FlashCrafter evidenceInconclusivemedium confidence

AI Overview presence was measurable but limited

Across 16 businesses, the median sampled AI Overview presence rate was 9.03% in retained Google result-page item types.

This is result-surface detection only. It does not measure Search Console traffic, the cited source, or whether the subject business appeared in the generated response.

Google's current guidance says foundational SEO remains relevant to generative Search and emphasizes unique, useful, non-commodity content. Our detection data confirms the surface exists in local-service research, but cannot test the ranking effect of that advice.

Anonymized first-party aggregate

Median sampled Google AI Overview item-type presence: 9.03%. Sample: 16 businesses.

Methodology and privacy

We reviewed immutable search and market-evidence snapshots from retained FlashCrafter Growth Brief runs, normalized only cross-category metrics that have the same meaning across included businesses, and compared the privacy-safe aggregates with current official guidance and explicitly attributed third-party research. External sources informed questions; they were not treated as proof of our observations. No causal ranking claim is made from this cross-sectional edition.

The edition includes 16 non-restaurant local-service businesses across an explicit allowlist of Google primary categories. This is a cross-category benchmark, not a conclusion about any one vertical. Narrower automotive, landscaping, and appliance-repair cohorts remained below the publication threshold and were not promoted as vertical research.

Included

  • A retained, immutable Growth Brief evidence snapshot observed no later than August 14, 2026
  • A Google primary category explicitly admitted to the local-service cross-category cohort
  • A metric with a consistent definition across the included categories
  • A public aggregate meeting the minimum cohort threshold

Excluded

  • Restaurants, banquet venues, blank primary categories, and categories outside the allowlist
  • Client names, domains, addresses, place IDs, account IDs, campaigns, queries, screenshots, and row-level observations
  • Local Services Ads performance because no dedicated account-performance adapter was available
  • ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other assistant rankings because no reproducible assistant probe was available

Privacy by design

Client identity was pseudonymized before aggregation. The public projection contains no raw client rows or direct and quasi-identifiers. Numeric cells require at least five businesses; percentages and rates require at least ten. Small or rare cells are suppressed rather than narrated as anecdotes.

Aggregate publication threshold: at least 5 businesses. Suppressed: Business and client identity, Domains, addresses, phones, markets, and place IDs, Ads accounts, campaigns, keywords, queries, and conversion actions, Raw observations, screenshots, exact dates, and source-system paths.

Limitations

  • This cross-category cohort cannot establish a vertical-specific benchmark.
  • The observations are cross-sectional and do not establish ranking causes or predict future performance.
  • Market CPC is planning evidence, not observed client campaign cost or return on ad spend.
  • AI Overview detection reflects retained result-page item types, not Search Console traffic or citation ownership.
  • Assistant visibility was not measured; official crawl guidance is reported separately from performance evidence.
